Hope you are all doing well.  It has been a while since the La Marriott has been closed for renovation but we recently received word from Evelio Fuentes at Rumba Entertainment that the club will re-open on June 8th, 2013.

The grand re-opening follows a major renovation to the club including an expansion to the dance floor and an upgraded dancing surface.  More details will be following soon but for now the La Jolla Marriott is slated to open its doors again for salsa dancing on Saturday June 8th.  Mark your calendars and see you all at the new La Jolla Marriott for some great salsa dancing.

Sabor on the Bay is back with their fun and eventful Latin party cruises for 2013.  The first one this year will be held on Memorial Day Weekend and will include the “Dress in All White” theme just like last year’s event.  If  you are new to these events check out the video from last year and you’ll get a glimpse of what you missed (and can take advantage of this year):

The 3 hour cruise will feature great views of San Diego’s harbor along with 3 distinct levels of entertainment to suit whatever your interests are for the night.  With capacity for 1,000 people, the party is great but sells out really quick so don’t procrastinate and secure your tickets today.

San Diego will soon hear the artistic expression of Afro-Brazilian beats at Copley Symphony Hall in March. Dance Brazil will be performing a two part performance including Banguela (a special rhythm played to calm down capoeiristas when their martial arts gets heated) and FÉ DO SERTÃO, a glimpse into a often difficult but rich way of life and also a centuries-old related celebration from regions in Brazil.

The Capoeira Foundation/DanceBrazil receives generous support  from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation,  and the Instituto de Arte Urbana da Bahia (IABUA).  Here in San Diego you can also do your part to show your support for the group by attending this one night event.

Colombian culture is slated to come alive in February thanks to the Colombian Consulate of Los Angeles and the Hispanic Arts Theatre here in San Diego.  This one night evening event will feature the art, food, music and dance of Colombia at the Joan B. Kroc Theatre.  The show will have FREE entry and FREE parking.

If you are new to salsa dancing in general the San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group gives you an opportunity to tap into the local community and learn from the best in our local scene. As the main organizer for the group I have the privilege of helping local dance instructors, studios and personalities reach new dancers in the scene who are ready to learn and engage in the salsa dance life. The San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group and RitmoBello.com are continuing the tradition of 1st Thursdays at Cafe Sevilla this January 3rd, 2013.

The event is open to everyone and we encourage you to bring any friends. This particular event is a great way to mingle and connect with interested dancers that are new to the San Diego area. This is especially new with a new year and many of you that have dance resolutions can make sure to start 2013 off right by attending.

We’ll meet downstairs at 8pm in the Meetup.com area of the club that will be reserved for our group. Look for the Meetup.com signs I will have on the tables close to the DJ booth. Walter Meneses and his wife Jeannette will give a free salsa lesson starting at 8:30pm.
