The San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group along with RitmoBello.com are hosting our third Meetup.com night at Cafe Sevilla.

This event will have a dress in black theme in honor of Halloween. Also, we are going to have a Meet and Greet Theme for October. We are asking our members to please come at 8pm in order to meet and greet before the music and lesson begins!

Cafe Sevilla is offering drink specials only to our Meetup.com members. Also members will get 1/2 off the cover price if you arrive before 9:30pm.  The restaurant is giving away a gift certificate in a raffle again but you’ll have to come early at 8pm to be entered to win (plus you can take the FREE salsa lesson which starts at 8:30pm).

When people mention Cafe Sevilla to me the question today is always, “When will Cafe Sevilla Re-open?!”  Well, San Diego salsa dancers your 8 months or so of waiting is coming to an end.  Cafe Sevilla is re-opening in its new 5th Avenue location with a whopping 10,000 square feet restaurant and club this month.  The former location was only 7,000 square feet back on 4th Avenue and Spanish-born owners Rogelio and Janet Huidobro have invested $2.7 million in making sure that the new location meets every salsa dancers’ expectations.

Some of the major changes will include a  larger tapas bar when compared to the old location and an underground nightclub that will accommodate 330 people. We are talking capacity for 90 additional salsa dancers compared to Cafe Sevilla’s old digs.

My hope with the new location is that it meets the needs of San Diego’s salsa dancers and that they bring quality, LIVE entertainment that San Diego sorely needs in a venue.

Cafe Sevilla’s Grand Opening Party & Fundraiser to benefit the It’s All About the Kids Foundation is scheduled  for June 29th but the real salsa dancing  will begin on a regular schedule on Thursdays each week.  I’m already working on getting the first Thursday of each month designated as Meetup.com night and I will get details to you all soon about it.

That’s right!  Blue Agave Nightclub once again brings the biggest names in salsa, bachata, and even merengue here to San Diego. This time it’s salsa sonero Victor Manuelle, merengue king Elvis Crespo, Bachata Heightz and a number of great artists coming to San Diego for the Invaders Tour 2010.  Victor Manuelle has been to San Diego a number of times and you may have enjoyed seeing him in concert courtesy of Blue Agave Nightclub last year (check out the Ritmo Bello YouTube video below):

As you may already know,  Cafe Sevilla is closed at the old 4th Avenue location as it moves to a bigger location in the Gaslamp.  While the physical restaurant and dance club is closed temporarily, the actual organization is hard at work bringing events to San Diego’s dancers.

One event you should not miss is coming up at the end of the month, the Cafe Sevilla Halloween Salsa Bachata Party on October 29th.  The party will be held nearby at The Abbey, a 100 year old  venue with 50 foot ceilings and definitely a great spooky place for a Halloween party.

The party will feature 2 bands, a Halloween costume contest with a $300 giveaway and plenty of salsa/bachata music throughout the night.  Ritmo Bello and the San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group will be there (in costume of course) to enjoy the event with you.  To RSVP for the party and to find out more information please visit the event page set up on the San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group calendar (click here).

That’s right!  San Diego is gaining a new salsa dance venue and the Grand Opening is set for Tue Sept 14, 2010 at the Keating Hotel.  The event will also be a celebration of Mexican Independence featuring Orquesta Tabaco y Ron and Oddy Pena y su Bachata Magic.

There will be multiple dance shows and a free salsa lesson beginning at 8:30pm courtesy of Ooh La La Dance Dance Company.  If you plan on going make sure you get there before 10pm to get in free, otherwise it’s $10.00.

If you haven’t been to the Keating Hotel before it’s easy to find with access through the Merk restaurant on 818 5th Street, next to Croces.
