Memorial Day weekend is going to be busy for salsa dancers with multiple events going on here in San Diego. 4th & B just announced that they are going to have Oscar D’Leon live in concert once again in May.
Venezuelan musician Oscar D’Leon is a crowd favorite here in San Diego with his spirited performances as seen from one of his past shows here:
Oscar D’Leon, a long time favorite of salsa dancers around the world, will be returning to San Diego this week in concert at Blue Agave Nightclub. The Venezuelan singer has performed a number of times here in San Diego and this time he will be the main act.

That’s right! For those of you that went to Gilberto Santa Rosa’s and Oscar D’Leon’s concerts here in the past you are in for a treat. Both professional salsa soneros will be in concert together at Harrah’s Rincon Casino & Resort. The show is being produced by Eddie Rodriguez for LatinWorks Music and tickets are already on sale for this event.

Direct from Colombia is Grupo Niche, a well known and established salsa band that for years has entertained the world with its unique style of Colombian salsa music.Grupo Niche is world renowned for it high tempo, energetic dance music along with a number of slower paced romantic songs.Many of the songs created by the group over the years are now considered salsa classics and are regularly heard in the salsa clubs around the world. As a Colombian American, I take great pride in the work and impact Grupo Niche has had on salsa music. I included a video from one of their past concerts so you could get a sense of what their unique salsa sounds like.
Oscar D’Leon, the other headliner for the concert, comes direct from Venezuela and brings with him a different yet equally uptempo style of salsa music.I’ve been to Oscar D’Leon’s concerts in the past and I can tell you that he is truly a master “sonero” and is known worldwide for his great singing voice.Like Grupo Niche, many of Oscar D’Leon’s songs are now considered salsa classics and the concert will present a unique opportunity to listen to him live.This second video shows a glimpse of what you can expect from this great salsa music artist.
Oscar D’Leon, the world renowned salsa singer, will be in San Diego for a performance on May 8th at the Blue Agave. The San Diego Salsa and Latin Dance Meetup has organized a meetup event for the concert for those interested in attending.
If you are not familiar with Oscar D’Leon, the video in this post will introduce you to the intoxicating and moving music typical of his work. Indeed, I’ve seen him in concert before up in the Bay Area (SF/Oakland, CA) and the energy at the concert was incredible. No surprise that it is hard to stand still and not want to salsa dance to this singer’s great music.
