1st Thursdays of the Month with Meetup.com is coming up June 7th and this month will have a celebration of summer theme. If you have a hawaiian shirt, Guayabera, summer dress or anything else in the summer spirit wear it to this party!
The event is open to everyone so feel free to come alone or bring any friends. In the past new members of our group have found this particular event a great way to mingle and connect with interested dancers. If you are not part of our Meetup group I encourage you to find out more in this post where I explain how it works.
We’ll meet downstairs at 8pm in the Meetup.com area of the club that will be reserved for our group. Look for the Meetup.com signs. Walter Meneses and his wife Jeannette will give a free salsa lesson starting at 8:30pm. As an added bonus the General Manager for Cafe Sevilla is donating free passes for entry into Cafe Sevilla’s club that will be given away in a raffle to those who come early for the salsa dance lesson.
One of the things I miss most about the time I’ve spent in Colombia is the food. For anyone that has ever had Colombian food you know how full of flavor the food is and the myriad of dishes offered from different regions of the country. If you are from San Diego you also know how painfully lacking this place is for finding authentic Colombian cuisine. Until now.
Restaurante Antojitos Colombianos y Delicias Mexicanas is a relatively new restaurant here in San Diego specializing in Colombian food. Javier Rodriguez, a Colombian immigrant from the region of Cali, opened the restaurant as a way to honor his late father and bring the fullness of Colombian food to San Diego. Great classic Colombian food ranging from Bistec a la Criolla, Mojarra Frita and a Paisa favorite Bandeja Paisa are just some of the great offerings. The food is pared nicely with a great warm environment full of Colombian folkloric art, music and a friendly ambiance typical of Colombians.
Located on Imperial Avenue in San Diego, the small on size but big on service restaurant is your one chance to try authentic Colombian Cuisine here locally. Check out Restaurante Antojitos today!
Salsa music legend Rubén Blades will be coming near to San Diego just south of the border in Tijuana this month. Known the world over for his great music (including writing great music such as “El Cantante” and “Pedro Navaja”), his unique sound will be heard at the Centro Cultural Tijuana May 11. Here is a small snippet of his music if you are not familiar with him:
The concert will be free (yes free!) as part of his “Ha Vuelto: Cantos y Cuentos Urbanos Word Tour 2012” and if you can make it down to Tijuana it is sure to be a great concert. Here is another video with info on the actual event:
