Helping Neighbors in Need: Food Drive at First Thursdays of the Month with Meetup.com November 3rd

Sunday, October 16, 2011

1st Thursdays of the Month with Meetup.com is coming up again and with it a great opportunity to meet new people here in San Diego.  This time the event will have a different twist in that we are asking people who attend to donate food to the St. Vincent de Paul Villages in anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Please bring any NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS for donating to the St. Vincent de Paul Village and Food pantry. We will have a box on site at the event to collect any canned food and other non-perishables to help out the less fortunate during this Thanksgiving season. In return the club will thank those who donate by giving 1/2 off the cover price before 9:30pm.  For those of you unfamiliar with St. Vincent de Paul’s Villages check out the videos here that explains some of the great services they provide to our community:

This monthly event held at Café Sevilla is a great way to break the ice with new people in a safe and friendly environment. For those of you unfamiliar with the newly re-opened Café Sevilla, the venue is known for its great Spanish Cuisine and as a great salsa dance venue.

The event is open to everyone so feel free to come alone or bring any friends. We’ll meet downstairs at 8pm in the Meetup.com area of the club that will be reserved for our group. Just look for the Meetup.com signs. Valerie will give a free salsa lesson starting at 8:30pm.

For full details and to RSVP please check out the special event page here on the San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup group.  If you have additional questions feel free to contact me on Twitter @RitmoBello.

Don’t forget to bring your canned goods and see you all at 8pm Thursday  November 4th at Café Sevilla!

El Duque de La Bachata Joan Soriano Performing LIVE Saturday October 15th

Thursday, October 13, 2011

A while back I wrote about Joan Soriano, El Duque de la Bachata, and the great documentary describing his struggles in becoming a bachata music artist.

This weekend you all have the opportunity to meet the man in the documentary as he performs live in concert!  Joan Soriano is performing live at Club Caribe along with Grupo Completo.  If you are new to his music you can get a short glimpse of his work in this video:

For more information on this concert and to network with others going to the concert you can RSVP on the event page created on the San Diego Salsa & Latin Dancing Meetup Group.

Don’t miss out on this great artist performing live here in San Diego!

6th Annual San Diego Salsa Bachata Festival Finds a New Home for Labor Day Weekend 2012

Sunday, October 9, 2011

The San Diego Salsa Bachata Festival has found a new home at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina.  Located on San Diego bay, the venue will allow dancers visiting San Diego the opportunity to not just have spectacular panoramic views of the San Diego skyline but easy access to the airport and many San Diego attractions such as Balboa Park.

The redesigned hotel offers five restaurants, three swimming pools, tennis courts, a spa and jogging trails to allow dancers to relax a little in between events.  Here is a short video highlighting the new venue and what it offers to guests:

Although the event is a year away, it is not too early to save money and get your VIP all access passes before the prices go up.  You can find out more information about the San Diego Salsa Bachata Festival and the new venue on the official website for the event.

See you all on the dance floor!
