New Year and New Salsa Goals for 2014

Friday, January 3, 2014

With 2014 now upon us I know many of you out there have personal goals of starting and improving your salsa dance this new year.  If you find yourself in the beginning stages of your salsa adventure here are some quick tips to make sure your salsa dancing in 2014 goes great:

1.  Get the Right Salsa Dance Gear

If you are new to salsa dancing you may not be aware of the myriad of options for shoes and other clothing that is available to enjoy.  From high inch heels for the ladies of every type to suave two tone shoes for the guys, there are lots of styles to choose from.  It’s normal in the salsa scene to be “dressed up” in a nice dress for the ladies or a suit for the gentleman, so experiment until you find your own fit.  One place to start in your search for salsa dance shoes, dresses, shirts etc is EK Clothing.  EK Clothing specializes in clothing constructed with dancers in mind with everything from the fabric and cut optimized for the dancer. (They carry men’s clothing and shoes as well.)

2.  Find the Right Salsa Dance Venues and Events in San Diego

There are lots of options for dancing salsa in San diego and my humble opinion is to try them all!  Honestly the extent of salsa venues, studios, and special events that take place in San Diego in any given week are enough to keep your whole week busy.  A good place to start for finding out information about the different venues in San Diego is our very own list we’ve compiled that is always up to date (if you see something that needs an update please let us know and we’ll make the necessary changes).  Additionally you can find out about specific salsa events offered by individual dance studios on the San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group calendar.  There you can not only find the right events but you’ll be connected to a vast array of salsa personalities that make up our great dance scene.

3.  Go for broke and have fun

If you are not having fun while salsa dancing something is terribly wrong.  Don’t get too caught up in the technicalities of the dance, whether you dance one style over another, etc.  The best that salsa dancing has to offer comes from the deep wellspring of joy that comes from simply going out and enjoying the gifts God has given you to dance.  Take advantage and enjoy the dance.

See you all on the dance floor!
