San Diego Dia de San Juan Salsa Festival to Feature Spanish Harlem Orchestra

Tuesday, June 7, 2011

The Dia de San Juan Salsa Festival is hitting San Diego later this month and we are lucky to have Spanish Harlem Orchestra on hand to headline the event.  That’s right, the 2 time Grammy Award winners will be performing LIVE at the event along with Conjunto Costazul and J.D All Stars.

Here are some videos of Spanish Harlem Orchestra and Conjunto Costazul for you to get a quick preview:

This festival will be a full day event starting at 10am and ending at 6pm.  Best part about it is that it will be a FREE event for kids 12 and under.  Everyone else can purchase tickets in advance for the event.

For more information about the event and to RSVP with the San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group please visit the event page here.

See you all at the San Diego Dia de San Juan Festival!

Grammy Award Winning Spanish Harlem Orchestra Performing Live Here in San Diego!

Saturday, February 14, 2009

We are lucky here in San Diego.  Apart from year round great weather (at least most of the time), we’ve had a number of big name salsa groups performing here as well. Looks like our luck is going to continue!

The Spanish Harlem Orchestra is coming to San Diego this March and with it comes some of the best contemporary salsa music out there today  (check out the video above and you’ll see what I mean).  The thirteen member ensemble is known worldwide for keeping alive the classic sounds of New York style salsa but with a modern twist.

Grammy award winning in 2004 for its album “Across 110th St.” and Grammy nominated for its debut album “Un Gran Dia En El Barrio”, the group comes to San Diego to spread its gospel of classic, yet contemporary salsa music.

Spanish Harlem Orchestra continues their tradition of great salsa music through its newest album “United We Swing” and San Diego will be able to share an evening with this great band at the Birch North Park Theatre.  The Birch North Park Theatre has also informed me that they are welcoming salsa dancers by opening part of the stage area for anyone who wants to dance, as well as encouraging dancing in the aisles and open area of this classic theatre.  What more could a salsa dancer ask for?

The San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group will of course be in attendance at this event and we’ve already set up an event page where you can access more information about tickets and RSVP for the event (click here to be taken there please).

Come out for a great night of New York style salsa here in sunny San Diego!
