As we approach Colombia’s independence day I’ll be posting information about local celebrations here in San Diego. One of the larger ones will be hosted by Rumba Entertainment at the Mission Valley Hilton on Sunday July 27, 2008.
The event (which doesn’t fall on the actual independence day for Colombia ) will be a combined festival to celebrate not only Colombia’s independence but also Peru’s.
There will be a live band, Orquesta Ritmo Caliente, and DJ Farley will be spinning Colombian style salsa. Oh and for all the Colombians out there the event will have Aguardiente Cristal.
To Find out more information about the event visit Rumba Entertainment .
Hope you are all doing great.
Evelio from Rumba Entertainment is hosting a "Battle of Da Deejays" this Thursday June 12th at the Mission Valley Hilton. DJ Mambo will be up against Super DJ Robby as they spin their most quality salsa, merengue, bachata & cha cha cha music. There will also be a guest DJ from Los Angeles visiting, DJ Rumbero. Incidentally, DJ Rumbero is also the new resident DJ for Salsa Mondays at Prospect Lounge .
There are also eight confirmed dance shows that will be performing this evening.

Hello! Hope you are all doing well. Believe it or not Colombia’s independence day is coming up in the not too distant future. Although the actual independence day is July 20th, there will be a special celebration on Sunday July 27th, 2008 at the Mission Valley Hilton here in San Diego from 11am to 6pm. Rumba Entertainment is hosting this event.
Some things to look forward to include folkloric dance performances, spectacular salsa and tango dance shows, food and souvenir vendors, and of course salsa dancing. Orquesta Ritmo Caliente is slated to perform and there should be free salsa lessons with paid admission. I’m hoping they will have some Aguardiente Antioqueno to make the celebration complete.

Hello Everyone! The Pre-Thanksgiving Salsa Extravaganza at the Mission Valley Hilton was a great event. Biz and I arrived sometime after 9pm and we came just in time for the beginning of general dancing. To be honest with you, I was really surprised to see so many familiar faces at the event given it was the day before Thanksgiving. It was nice to catch up with old friends, be mistakenly identified as my brother (which by the way happens quite a bit in the Salsa scene here in San Diego), and enjoy the great music of Johnny Polanco. We were also treated with some dance performances (see video above -the sound quality is not the best though, my apology) and even caught a cameo appearance of an original member of the Buena Vista Social Club (not 100% sure on this but Biz thinks he was, so I believe her ;-D).
All in all, it was a great event and I’ll be sure to visit the Mission Valley Hilton for Salsa in the future.

I can’t believe its Wednesday already! Tonight is the Pre-Thanksgiving Salsa Extravaganza at the Mission Valley Hilton. I probably won’t arrive until after 9pm tonight but it should be lots of fun. If you see me at the event feel free to stop me and say hello. There should be lots of meetup members there as well so don’t be a stranger. Take time to meet the other meetup members and make a new friend. Below is some repeat information regarding the event:
