It’s hard to believe but the time for the San Diego Salsa Bachata Festival is here once again! Celebrating 7 years of existence, the local festival draws the world’s best salsa, bachata, merengue and Latin dancers to compete, instruct and inspire.
As we’ve seen in past years, the San Diego Salsa Bachata Festival is broken up over several days beginning with a Thursday night pre-party celebration winding down to social dancing on Sunday night. The Festival will feature top salsa and bachata dance groups from the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe and Asia as they perform during each night. During the days you can take advantage of the many workshops that focus on particular dance skills related to salsa and other Latin dances.
An added bonus this year is the 5th Year Sabor on the Bay Yacht party that is set to Launch on August 31st. That event will feature 3 hours of fun aboard a luxury yacht with live salsa bands and a Las Vegas style theme.
Whatever you choose to do on Labor Day Weekend, here in San Diego the Salsa and Latin dance choices are limitless!
See you all during the fun events of Labor Day Weekend 2013!
Halloween will soon be upon us all and along with the usual costume parties there are also masquerade type parties (mask only, dress to impress) that abound during this time. One unique event taking place October 20 will be the Moonlight Masquerade Salsa & Bachata Yacht Party presented by Rock Sugar Marketing.
This particular yacht party will be unique in that it will be a masquerade theme where dancers are encouraged to bring masks during this 4 hour cruise of Mission Bay. The semi formal masquerade ball (guys this means you can opt for a tie if you want, ladies can wear their special black dress) will feature Johnny Polanco y Su Conjunto Amistad with live salsa music to dance the night away.
San Diego has seen some movement in the salsa club scene as of late with some closures and management changes. With the closure of salsa Tuesdays at the Keating Hotel, a new opportunity for great salsa is starting this Tuesday September 18th in the Gaslamp Quarter. The new club, presented by Rumba Entertainment, will launch at the Onxy Room located on Fifth Avenue. The club has a good reputation as a regular club so it will be interesting to see how it fares as a salsa dance venue.
The 6th Annual San Diego Salsa Bachata Festival 2012 is August 30th through September 2nd and Ritmo Bello is giving away a full access VIP pass again this year! We are fortunate to see the Dominican perform live at Blue Agave Nightclub July 20th and I encourage all of you to support this great artist. For those of you new to him and his music here is a great clip of him in concert performing “Que Pasara Mañana”:
San Diego’s Dia de San Juan Salsa and Bachata Festival is coming up soon and with it a great opportunity to experience Puerto Rican culture here locally. The Dia de San Juan has its roots in the Catholic feast day of St. John, commemorating the birth of St. John the Baptist 6 months before Jesus’ birth (which is why it falls on June 24th.)
This year we are fortunate to have none other than Tito Puente Jr. performing live at the event. A Tribute to El Rey Tito Puente Featuring his son and Honoring the great Timbalero from the Tito Rodriguez Orchestra, Mr. Pat Rodriguez will be some of the highlights this year.
Presented by Tommy Rosas’ Latin Flavor Productions, the event will be hosted by Chris Springer of Jazz 88.3 fame. There will be a salsa and bachata emphasis with 2 stages of great music for all those interested in celebrating the holiday.
