I receive lots of emails from folks visiting San Diego and asking me about our great dance scene. Invariably I always direct them to check out what is going on the San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group calendar.
The San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup group is a great resource available for local dance studios, club promoters and event organizers to connect with those who want to be “in the know” when it comes to dancing here in San Diego.
It’s time again for the San Diego Salsa Bachata Festival and RitmoBello.com has the updated schedule available for the Labor Day weekend (see below). The San Diego Salsa Bachata Festival has a new home this year at the Sheraton Hotel and Marina.
Now in it’s 6th year, the festival is a great event with professional dance shows, workshops from the world’s greatest salsa/bachata dancers and fun social dancing with live bands like Johnny Polanco. Tickets and rooms are still available for the festival but they are sure to sell out soon so don’t procrastinate and secure your spot now. You can find out more information and instructions on how to purchase tickets on the Official Partner site for the festival, the San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group.
See you all at the 2012 San Diego Salsa Bachata Festival!
1st Thursdays of the Month with Meetup.com is coming up again and with it a great opportunity to meet new people here in San Diego in 2012. The focus of this meetup is to cater to those new to San Diego and new to salsa in general (especially in the new year!).
This monthly event held at Café Sevilla is a great way to break the ice with new people in a safe and friendly environment. For those of you unfamiliar with Café Sevilla, the venue is known for its great Spanish Cuisine and as a great salsa dance venue.
The event is open to everyone so feel free to come alone or bring any friends. We’ll meet downstairs at 8pm in the Meetup.com area of the club that will be reserved for our group. Look for the Meetup.com signs. Valerie will give a free salsa lesson starting at 8:30pm.
1ST THURSDAYS OF THE MONTH w/ MEETUP.COM AT CAFE SEVILLA IS BACK!!!
It’s time for our INAUGURAL 1st Thursday event this year and we will be celebrating the re-opening of Cafe Sevilla on 5th Avenue.
This month’s event we are going to have a DRESS IN RED THEME. Wear your red dresses, shirts, pants, shoes and socks as we all get decked out for this red hot August night. Cafe Sevilla is offering drink specials only to our Meetup.com members. Also members will get 1/2 off the cover price if you arrive before 9:30pm. There will be some giveaways of salsa “goodies” so make sure to come at 8pm to be part of the raffle. Here is a video sneak peak of what you’ll see during our event at Cafe Sevilla:
After months and months of waiting with multiple push backs on the official opening date, Cafe Sevilla is finally set to open once again this Thursday July 14th! I just received word from SalsaCA.com’s Valerie with confirmation of the final permit inspection and that Club Salsa will launch at the new 5th Avenue location this week.
If you don’t get on the invite list or simply can’t make it this Thursday don’t worry. RitmoBello.com in conjunction with the San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group is gearing up to bring back the popular Meetup.com night at Cafe Sevilla. The “1st Thursday of the month with Meetup.com at Club Sevilla” is slated to occur for the first time at the new club on Thursday August 4th, 2011. Stay tuned to RitmoBello.com for more information in the coming weeks.
See you all on the dance floor at the new 5th Avenue Cafe Sevilla!
After 22 years, Café Sevilla is trading their subterranean salsa dance venue on Fourth Avenue for a larger, more heavily trafficked Fifth Avenue location.
Although I love the current location for Café Sevilla, I have to admit the changes sound good. The new location between J and K streets will boast a larger dining room and tapas bar than the current location. Even better is the expanded room for live entertainment as the club will take advantage of the 3,000 more square feet they will gain in the move.
I think the new location on Fifth Avenue will help the restaurant and bar attract a whole new group of people who have yet to experience Café Sevilla. As a dancer I’m going to appreciate the same great Café Sevilla but with lots more room to go out and dance. As I find out more information about these changes I’ll let you know. Until then let’s keep enjoying the current location on Fourth Avenue and join us on August 4th for the San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group’s next 1st Wednesday Event.
Cafe Sevilla and Alma Marketing are bringing to San Diego an event that cannot be missed! Sevilla on the Bay will feature a Black and Red themed yacht party on the Inspiration, the Hornblower’s largest ship.
For those of you that attended past yacht parties hosted by Cafe Sevilla, you know that the event is a fun mix of salsa dancing, hip hop, top 40, and even Spanish guitar playing. I’ve included some videos below for everyone else to be able to get a preview of the Sevilla on the Bay yacht party and why you should not miss this event:
As part of this 23 year celebration of Cafe Sevilla the event will feature the great musical talent of Angel Lebron y Su Sabor Latino (check out the recent Ritmo Bello interview of Angel Lebron, he is a great guy). There will also be DJ Mambo and Malamaña (see and hear their great Spanish guitar skills in the video below):
Lastly, don’t forget that I will most likely be shooting video there and I’m still trying to raise funds to upgrade our videos to HD quality. I’ve included the donation widget below and we appreciate any help you can give! (You can click here to find out more information about this fundraiser).
See you all at the Cafe Sevilla on the Bay Red & Black Summer Party!
