The San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group and RitmoBello.com are continuing the tradition of 1st Thursdays at Cafe Sevilla this January 3rd, 2013.
The event is open to everyone and we encourage you to bring any friends. This particular event is a great way to mingle and connect with interested dancers that are new to the San Diego area. This is especially new with a new year and many of you that have dance resolutions can make sure to start 2013 off right by attending.
We’ll meet downstairs at 8pm in the Meetup.com area of the club that will be reserved for our group. Look for the Meetup.com signs I will have on the tables close to the DJ booth. Walter Meneses and his wife Jeannette will give a free salsa lesson starting at 8:30pm.
1st Thursdays of the Month with Meetup.com is coming up again and with it a great opportunity to meet new people here in San Diego. This time the event will have a different twist in that we are asking people who attend to donate food to the St. Vincent de Paul Villages in anticipation of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Please bring any NON-PERISHABLE FOOD ITEMS for donating to the St. Vincent de Paul Village and Food pantry. We will have a box on site at the event to collect any canned food and other non-perishables to help out the less fortunate during this Thanksgiving season. In return the club will thank those who donate by giving 1/2 off the cover price before 9:30pm. For those of you unfamiliar with St. Vincent de Paul’s Villages check out the videos here that explains some of the great services they provide to our community:
This monthly event held at Café Sevilla is a great way to break the ice with new people in a safe and friendly environment. For those of you unfamiliar with the newly re-opened Café Sevilla, the venue is known for its great Spanish Cuisine and as a great salsa dance venue.
The event is open to everyone so feel free to come alone or bring any friends. We’ll meet downstairs at 8pm in the Meetup.com area of the club that will be reserved for our group. Just look for the Meetup.com signs. Valerie will give a free salsa lesson starting at 8:30pm.
The San Diego Salsa and Latin Dancing Meetup Group along with RitmoBello.com are hosting our third Meetup.com night at Cafe Sevilla.
This event will have a dress in black theme in honor of Halloween. Also, we are going to have a Meet and Greet Theme for October. We are asking our members to please come at 8pm in order to meet and greet before the music and lesson begins!
Cafe Sevilla is offering drink specials only to our Meetup.com members. Also members will get 1/2 off the cover price if you arrive before 9:30pm. The restaurant is giving away a gift certificate in a raffle again but you’ll have to come early at 8pm to be entered to win (plus you can take the FREE salsa lesson which starts at 8:30pm).
Here is a short video from one of our recent events showcasing bachata dancing at Cafe Sevilla:
Colombia’s Independence day is this Sunday July 20th and there are a number of events around San Diego to celebrate the event.
First, The Casa de Colombia will be hosting a dance and food exhibition at Balboa Park’s International Cottages . For those of you familiar with the International Cottages, you know that the organization is a consortium of "houses" that represent 32 countries here in San Diego. The idea behind the International Cottages is to give a glimpse of the member countries culture, history, and traditions. For Colombian Independence Day, there will be a lawn program on Sunday including performances by a dance and ballet group, Colombian musicians, and vocal entertainment all in the Colombian tradition. The event begins at 11am. I’ll be at this event wearing my traditional colombian vueltiao sombrero , so say hello if you see me.
The Casa de Colombia is later hosting an event at Cafe Sevilla , with featured guest Yari More and his orquesta, a dance class beginning at 6:45pm, complimentary Tapas Buffet until 7:30pm and DJ’s spinning Colombian salsa music throughout the night. If you miss the event at Balboa Park, you can still learn about the Casa de Colombia and what they do for the local San Diego community at the information table they will be hosting at Cafe Sevilla. I heard through my sources that there will be Aguardiente drink specials throughout the night…not to be missed!
Cover is only $8.00 but i heard you can get a discount entry if you wear anything with Colombian pride (T-shirts, paint your face, etc.), making it only $5.00.
Hello Everyone!I’m really excited to announce that Café Sevilla is now offering Salsa on Sunday nights beginning February 17th.Here are the details about it:

Dance class at 6:45pm with Valerie and her Siempre Salsa Gang (a variety of Latin dances will be taught from week to week)

Sometime in March I plan on organizing a Meetup event to take advantage of the dinner and dancing now available on Sunday Nights.
Its great to know that we all have a new Sunday night venue available for us all. Have fun dancing!
Hi everyone. Salsa dancing at Cafe Sevilla was great as usual. I made a point of arriving at Cafe Sevilla promptly at 9pm and making myself available to Meetup members that wanted to talk before the dancing started. I had the opportunity to meet some new members to the San Diego area (some from Boston, some hailing from other areas as well) and caught up with some old friends as well. Biz brought some balloons for my birthday and after the lesson was done we all went straight for the dance floor for some great Salsa Dancing. An added bonus was having Orquesta Primo performing live at the venue.
All in all a great night! Thanks to everyone who came out.
Just wanted to let you know that there will be a Salsa Meetup this Wednesday at Cafe Sevilla. One thing that I’ve found from hosting multiple meetups in the past is that many people go to them but its hard to really meet those that are part of the group.
To remedy this, I’m going to have a special meetup button I’ll wear to identify myself and I’ll be downstairs by the large bar area for anyone that has any questions about the group. I’m looking to be there a little after 9pm.
Looking forward to not shopping and going to the Salsa Meetup!
